Before you install a new font, regardless of your operating system, make sure all other applications are closed. If you leave an application open while installing a font, you would anyway have to close and reopen in order for the font to show. So, you might as well do it right from the start.
Forget about all the step by step instruction on how to install fonts on a Windows PC. All you have to do is download the font, copy the font file from its download location using Windows Explorer) and then paste it into the Windows » Fonts folder. That's it! Instead of copy/paste you can also simply drag the font file to the Windows » Fonts folder.
On a Mac the process is similar. Drag the font file(s) to the System folder, and click 'ok' when prompted.
Note that TrueType fonts have one font file, and ostScript fonts for the Mac have a printer and a screen font. When dragging a font to the System folder, make sure you have included all teh neccesary files.
